This superb 1/4 chime bracket clock was made in the 1890s. The clock has a New Haven movement with a separate Stephen Willcock five gong 1/4 chime movement below that. Both movements are original and have been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. The clock rings out the sounds of London's Big Ben Westminster chimes every 15 minutes and strikes out the hours beautifully. The attractive case with a resonator base serves as a very fine sound box. This gorgeous case with its gleaming brass bezel bevelled glass door and ornate brass side panels is a high quality oak. The brass dial panel with pretty corner spandrels and silvered chapter ring is original. The original silvering is slightly worn in places. Time and strike are wound through key holes in the dial as usual while the chime unit below is wound through the keyhole in the wooden panel. A lever to silence the chimes is located on one side below one of the velvet backed panels. There is a very good write-up on Stephen Willcock of Toronto and his chimes in the Early Canadian Timekeepers reference book. The original giant key is included as is the pendulum. The clock measures 12.5 inches by 8.5 inches by 20 inches high.
