The movement has an open escapement visible through the porcelain dial. Movement is original and has been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. The gorgeous gleaming brass case with it panes of bevelled glass has one door at the front and another at the rear. The pendulum is a lovely brass sunshine cameo. Ref No t0442 Vintage Canadian Coastguard Chelsea Ships Clock
This vintage Canadian Coastguard Chelsea ships clock dates back to the 1950-60s. The movement is original and has recently been overhauled and oiled. The case is bakelite and the silvered dial is in good shape. It is marked Chelsea as well as bearing the name of the Ontario Hughes Owen Co of Ottawa Canada. This beautiful 1930s era golden carriage drawn by a four horse team early electric clock is in good condition. It was made in the USA by United Mfg. Of Brooklyn NY. There is the royal crown on top of the coach and four footmen at front and back. The movement is original and appears to be in good condition and running well. It is mounted on a very nice fine hardwood base with felt lining underneath. Wood looks like it is mahogany. Horse and carriage are a cast white metal with gold finishing. Ref No t0379 Rare 1800s Baxter of Quebec Double Fusee Wall Clock
This nice looking rare Canadian clock has a great very heavy double fusee imported English movment. The case is flame mahoghany on walnut with the typical fluted brass window of the early to mid 1800s clocks. The face is all original and bears only the word Quebec. There are no marks on the movement or plate other than clock repair ones. The lettering style of the word Quebec looks just the same as that shown in the Early Canadian Timekeepers reference of the dial of a Wm. Baxter clock of the same period. Baxter was born and trained in Scotland and came to Quebec City around 1840. He was in business there until 1880. The movement and pendulum are original and have been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. It strikes the hours out very loudly on a large nickle silver bell. This rare antique steeple clock with its superb gothic spires was made in the mid 1800s by JC Brown of Forestville Connecticut. JC Brown bought the house of Chauncey and Lawson Ives in 1844 after their business failed in the 1837 panic and ensuing depression. He in turn went out of business in 1856 and Browns clock company was then bought by the E.N. Welch Manufacturing Company (later to become the Sessions Clock Company). The signed movement is original and has been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. The gorgeous case with its gothic spires is in good condition. The lower tablet (a replacement) contains a scene of Broadway NY. It strikes the hour and the half hour on a melodious deep gong. Key and pendulum are included. Ref No t0503 Superb Rare Canadian Willcock 1/4 Chime Bracket Clock
This superb 1/4 chime bracket clock was made in the 1890s. The clock has a New Haven movement with a separate Stephen Willcock five gong 1/4 chime movement below that. Both movements are original and have been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. The clock rings out the sounds of London's Big Ben Westminster chimes every 15 minutes and strikes out the hours beautifully. The attractive case with a resonator base serves as a very fine sound box. This gorgeous case with its gleaming brass bezel bevelled glass door and ornate brass side panels is a high quality oak. The brass dial panel with pretty corner spandrels and silvered chapter ring is original. The original silvering is slightly worn in places. Time and strike are wound through key holes in the dial as usual while the chime unit below is wound through the keyhole in the wooden panel. A lever to silence the chimes is located on one side below one of the velvet backed panels. There is a very good write-up on Stephen Willcock of Toronto and his chimes in the Early Canadian Timekeepers reference book. The original giant key is included as is the pendulum. Ref No t0517 Unique 1860s Philadelphia Fusee Mantle Clock with PTO
This unique fusee clock from Philadelphia was made in the 1860s. The movement probably made in England and is original and has been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. The movement is unusual in that it is a three day one with a massive wheel to supply power to some sort of automation that must once have been attached below the clock. The sturdy rounded metal case has a gleaming brass bezel. The porcelain dial reads Code Hopper and Gratz Gas Meter Manufacturers Philadelphia. This firm were active around 1860 and provided meters to clients such as the Pennsylvania Hospital. Dial has some minor hairlines around the 11-12 area. The mahogany base was made recently to mount the clock for use as a mantle clock. Paint has been renewed and matches the original color and patterns. Pendulum and crank are included. This superb grand sonnerie portico Clock was made in Vienna during the mid 1800s. The exquisitely finished silk thread calendar movement is original and has been completely overhauled and restored to great working condition. The gorgeous case of ebonised hardwood with its gleaming brass bezel and face has a porcelain chapter ring and calendar ring. It has alabaster pillars and gilded ornamentation of both brass and wood. It also has a brass sunshine cameo pendulum. The grand sonnerie clock strikes the quarter and the appropriate hour on a pair of melodious deep gongs every fifteen minutes. These clocks were often used in churches and monasteries so people could hear the time without being near the clock to see what hour it was and thus perform the correct prayers etc. There are a couple of small nicks in the finish at the back top edge of the case.
